When I first started dealing with fungal acne, I thought I needed an entirely new skincare routine. After a lot of trial and error, I realized my skin responded best to something much simpler: a consistent routine built around a handful of products I genuinely trust.
Every product below is one I’ve personally used, finished, or repurchased. Here’s the simple routine that helped me clear and maintain my fungal acne-prone skin.

How I Decide Whether a Product Is Worth Buying
Before I add a new product to my routine, I ask myself a four simple questions:
- Is it fungal acne-safe? I check every product’s ingredient list to make sure it doesn’t contain ingredients that commonly trigger fungal acne.
- Does it solve a problem my current routine isn’t already solving? I try not to buy products simply because they’re trending or highly recommended online.
- Is it gentle enough to use consistently? Protecting my skin barrier is just as important as treating breakouts. A product isn’t helpful if it’s too harsh to use regularly.
- Would I happily buy it again? If I wouldn’t happily buy it again once it’s empty, it probably doesn’t deserve a permanent place in my routine.
These questions have helped me stop chasing every new product that becomes popular online. Instead of constantly searching for something better, I focus on products that have earned my trust through consistent results.
My Morning Routine
Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser

After trying cleansers that either felt too harsh or left my skin feeling dry, I kept coming back to the Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser. It cleanses thoroughly without leaving my skin feeling tight or stripped, and it’s gentle enough to use every morning and evening.
I use one pump of it morning and night, gently massage it onto damp skin, then rinse with lukewarm water before moving on to the rest of my routine.
Why it’s earned a place in my routine
Would I repurchase it? Absolutely. I’ve already repurchased it multiple times.
SkinSmart Antimicrobial Facial Cleanser

I added SkinSmart Antimicrobial Facial Cleanser to my routine while looking for gentle ways to help manage breakouts without relying on another harsh active. It feels just like water, never stings, and doesn’t leave behind any residue, so it’s incredibly easy to incorporate into my routine.
I spray it onto clean skin after cleansing, let it dry for about a minute, and then continue with the rest of my skincare routine.
Why it’s earned a place in my routine
Would I repurchase it? Yes. It’s one of the easiest products in my routine to recommend because it’s simple, gentle, and effortless to use.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide Face Moisturizer

Finding the right moisturizer took more trial and error than I expected. Many of the ones I tried were either too rich for my acne-prone skin or so lightweight that they didn’t provide enough hydration. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide Face Moisturizer ended up being the one that finally struck the right balance. It’s lightweight enough that it never feels greasy or heavy, yet still gives my skin the hydration it needs to stay comfortable throughout the day.
I apply one to two pumps after my toner every morning and evening before moving on to sunscreen or the rest of my nighttime routine.
Would I repurchase it? Definitely. It’s the first moisturizer I’ve found that strikes the right balance for my skin.
Why it’s earned a place in my routine
CoTZ Face Prime & Protect Non-Tinted Mineral Sunscreen and Facial Primer

When I was building a fungal acne-friendly routine, finding a sunscreen I actually enjoyed wearing every day was surprisingly difficult. Many products either didn’t fit the ingredient criteria I was looking for or simply didn’t feel good on my skin. CoTZ Face Prime & Protect Non-Tinted Mineral Sunscreen and Facial Primer ended up being one of the few that checked every box. It’s lightweight, comfortable to wear, doubles as a makeup primer, and makes applying sunscreen every morning feel effortless.
I apply it every morning as the last step of my skincare routine before makeup.
Would I repurchase it? Yes. I haven’t found another sunscreen that makes wearing SPF every day this easy.

My Evening Routine
My evening routine builds on my morning routine with a few additional steps to thoroughly remove sunscreen and give my skin a little extra care overnight. I use the same cleanser and moisturizer as my morning routine, then add the products below.
Oil Cleanser
Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil

I use Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil as the first step in my evening routine to remove sunscreen and makeup before cleansing with my regular cleanser.
I massage one to two pumps onto dry skin to dissolve sunscreen and makeup, add a little water to emulsify it, then rinse before cleansing with my regular cleanser.
One important note: Although this cleansing oil isn’t considered fungal acne-safe by many ingredient checkers, I didn’t introduce it until my skin had been consistently clear for quite some time.
When I was first clearing my fungal acne, I stuck to products that fit the ingredient guidelines I was following while clearing my fungal acne. Once my skin had been consistently clear for a while, I slowly introduced this cleansing oil to see how my skin would respond. It removes sunscreen and makeup effortlessly, rinses clean, and hasn’t caused any issues for my skin, so it’s become a staple in my evening routine.
Why it’s earned a place in my routine
Calming Toner
numbuzin No.1 Pure-Full Calming Herb Toner

I use numbuzin No.1 Pure-Full Calming Herb Toner after cleansing in my evening routine for an extra layer of lightweight hydration before applying moisturizer. It absorbs quickly, never feels heavy or sticky, and leaves my skin feeling calm and comfortable. I especially like using when my skin feels a little more sensitive or dehydrated.
I pour a few drops into the palm of my hand, then gently pat it into my skin before following with serum.
Why it’s earned a place in my routine
Hydrating Serum
Torriden DIVE-IN Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Many of the serums I came across weren’t considered fungal acne-safe, so I was excited to find Torriden DIVE-IN Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I like using it to give my skin an extra boost of hydration before moisturizer, especially when my skin is feeling a little drier than usual. Even though it’s hydrating, it absorbs quickly and never feels sticky or heavy.
I use the dropper to apply a few drops directly to my forehead and cheeks, then massage it into my skin before applying moisturizer.

What I’ve Learned Along the Way
These lessons have shaped my routine just as much as the products themselves
- Consistency matters more than having a complicated routine.
- I introduce only one new product at a time.
- I give products several weeks before deciding whether they’re working.
- Not every viral product is worth trying.
- The products I repurchase are usually the ones that quietly work well every day.
Final Thoughts
Finding a fungal acne-friendly routine took far more trial and error than I expected. Like a lot of people, I found myself buying products that were popular on social media, only to realize they weren’t any better than the ones I was already using. Sometimes they even made my skin worse.
Over time, I stopped chasing every new launch and started paying attention to the products I consistently reached for, repurchased, and trusted. That’s how this routine came together.
If you’re building your own routine, my biggest piece of advice is to keep it simple. Start with a few well-chosen products, give them time to work, and don’t feel like you need to try every new product. In my experience, consistency has made a much bigger difference than constantly changing my routine.
